The Armed Forces of Venezuela qualify the self-proclamation of the opposition Guaidó as interim president, as a coup d’état in progress.
In a statement released Thursday at noon and broadcast on national television, the Venezuelan military High Comanders have denounced the illegal action of the Venezuelan opposition and have cataloged the self-proclamation of the president of the National Assembly (AN) in content, the opposition Juan Guaidó, as “a coup d’etat in progress.”
“A coup d’état is being carried out against [Venezuelan President] Nicolás Maduro,” Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López warned, adding that it was dangerous to “assume a de facto government that lacks legitimacy.”
He has also described as “abhorrent and reprehensible” the measure of Guaidó and has warned that such an attitude undermines the rule of law and peace in Venezuela. The minister has also warned that the self-proclamation of Guaidó represents a great danger that threatens the integrity of Venezuela, while warning that sectors of the extreme right actively seek to fragment the country.
Finally, Padrino López affirms that there is an unprecedented hybrid war against Venezuela, whose ultimate goal is to justify a foreign intervention that will establish a puppet government in power.
“It is very sad to see what is happening, with deranged factors, with people outside their centers, with people who want to break into a violent, schizophrenic, not rational way. It is not a civil war that is going to solve the problems of Venezuela,” he said.
Guaidó self-proclaimed on Wednesday as “interim president” of the South American country, fact, after which the United States, Canada and several other countries have backed him, while countries like Russia, Mexico, Turkey, Iran, China and Cuba have supported the Government of Caracas.
In response to this measure, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has break ties with the United States and has given 72 hours for the US complete diplomatic corps to leave Venezuela.
