About us

Orinoco Tribune is an independent media outlet that provides news and analysis on Venezuela, Latin America and the Global South. It was founded in 2018 and is known for its progressive perspective and critical coverage of US foreign policy and imperialism.

We feature articles, opinion pieces, and interviews on international relations, politics, economics, social movements, culture, and other issues. Orinoco Tribune aims to offer a counter-narrative to mainstream media, promote alternative voices and perspectives on the region, and challenge dominant narratives about Venezuela from an anti-imperialist perspective.

We produce original written and multimedia material. We supplement that work by curating and translating relevant news and analysis from Spanish into English and by sharing relevant English-language pieces about Venezuela and the world. We strive to portray Venezuela’s daily reality accurately while challenging the bias that pervades much mainstream coverage of our country and region.

Orinoco Tribune defends the causes of the less privileged, Chavistas, the working class, peasant movements, anti-imperialists, and people denied access to the media. We reject smear campaigns, imperialist narratives, and destructive or divisive criticism, while recognizing the constructive self-criticism needed to advance anti-imperialist struggle.

We also compile information and debates concerning Chavismo that might otherwise not reach audiences outside Venezuela because of language barriers, censorship, silencing, and the blockade imposed on Venezuela and other countries.

Publisher and editorial responsibility

Orinoco Tribune was founded by Jesús Rodríguez-Espinoza and is operated by its editorial team. The editors, contributors, and volunteers publicly identified in the team section below are responsible for the outlet’s reporting, translation, analysis, and publication work.

Newsroom articles prepared collectively, or published by the editorial desk rather than one individual, are attributed to Orinoco Tribune. Articles by named contributors retain the contributor’s public byline. Opinion articles express the views of their authors and do not necessarily represent the views of the Orinoco Tribune editorial team.

Ownership and funding

Orinoco Tribune is independently operated by its editorial team. Its work is sustained through reader donations and fundraising campaigns, together with volunteer contributions. Editorial decisions are made by Orinoco Tribune; financial support does not purchase favorable coverage or editorial control.

Standards and contact

Our publication practices are described in our Editorial Standards. Writers who wish to submit work should also read our separate Contributor Guidelines. Questions, corrections, and complaints may be submitted through our Contact page.
