CNE Publishes Results of Venezuela’s Municipal Elections—No Detailed Vote Counts

Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)—On Tuesday, Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) published the list of elected mayors and council members following municipal elections held on July 27.

In a Telegram announcement, the electoral authority notified political organizations and candidates that they may now access partial results via a pdf document. The CNE has not released detailed election data—including vote counts or breakdowns—since the July 28, 2024, presidential election, raising transparency concerns about Venezuela’s electoral system.

The CNE bulletin issued early Monday reported that turnout surpassed six million votes, representing 44% of the “active” voting population. The precise meaning of the new terminology was not clarified by the CNE.

Elected candidates must appear before Municipal Electoral Boards on July 29, according to the CNE schedule, to proceed with adjudication, proclamation, and accreditation.

This follows Venezuela’s August 22, 2024, Supreme Court ruling that confirmed President Nicolás Maduro’s victory in the presidential election by a margin of seven percentage points. The ruling stemmed from an appeal filed by Maduro to clarify results that were disputed by the opposition. The Supreme Court also ordered the CNE to publish detailed polling station results within 30 days—a standard post-election procedure—but these detailed results were never released.
