According to photographs taken by teleSUR correspondents early on Sunday morning, you could see buildings in the city fully illuminated; a proof that the flow of electricity is returned to homes in the Venezuelan capital.
According to the authorities, this national blackout was incited by factions backed by foreigners who tried to destabilize the president, Nicolás Maduro. The president stressed that the attack “affected everyone equally and without political distinction.”
The automated control system of the Simón Bolívar Hydroelectric Plant, popularly known as El Guri, was attacked. Within this high-tech plant, three of the five backup generators were sabotaged electronically, the vice president of the Communication, Tourism and Culture Sector, Jorge Rodríguez, said in a statement on Thursday.
In addition, Rodriguez clarified on Friday that reports circulating that 79 people died in hospitals due to a power failure were false.
