This weekend, the Venezuelan Minister for Internal Affairs, Justice and Peace Diosdado Cabello revealed details of a new terrorist plan targeting Venezuela.
During a press conference on Saturday, September 14, Cabello reported that the terrorist plan aimed to assassinate the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, the vice president, Delcy RodrĂguez, and other high-ranking government officials, including himself.

• Spanish intelligence sought French mercenaries
Cabello said that the Spanish National Intelligence Centre (CNI) was involved in this operation through mercenaries of French origin. He announced that Venezuelan authorities captured two nationals of Spain identified as Andres Martinez Adasme and Jose Maria Basoa Valdovinos, both admitting to links with the CNI.
The objective of the French mercenaries was to take the MaiquetĂa International Airport. This plan was led by Wilber Joseph Castaneda, an active US military officer, who was in Venezuela during the presidential elections.

Minister Cabello said that the main targets that the mercenaries would attack would be the headquarters of state powers and public service, where they would place bombs. Electricity service, water service, and the Miraflores Palace are the targets most frequently mentioned in the seized evidence, he added.
“Launching terrorist attacks on facilities linked to water, electricity, and transport services, as well as cyberattacks on state agencies,” he said.
• Vente Venezuela leaders contacted the terrorists
Diosdado Cabello indicated that the person in charge of the far-right political organization Vente Venezuela, led by Maria Corina Machado, in Aragua state, MarĂa Teresa Clavijo, was contacted by most of the detained terrorists.
“We found links with a woman named MarĂa Teresa Clavijo from the state of Aragua, leader of Vente Venezuela, Yorman Enrique Varillas, and JĂ©ssica Isabela Ponte Figuera, who participated directly in the post-election violence, and was also the contact of the two Spaniards,” he said.
After uncovering this terrorist plan, Venezuelan authorities arrested three US nationals, one Czech, and two Spaniards who were part of a group of 14 people who intended to carry out a mercenary operation with the help of local criminal gangs.
