A new shipment of humanitarian technical assistance from the People’s Republic of China arrived this Saturday at the Simón Bolívar international airport in Maiquetía, Venezuela, with 30 tons of medical supplies. Among the supplies there are diagnostic kits for PCR (polymerase chain reaction), masks, protective suits, gloves and medications that will be destined to various health centers for the care of people who have tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.
This shipment brings to more than 110 tons of medicines and medical surgical material received by Venezuela from China.
The actions are part of the spirit of solidarity and complementarity between the government of President Xi Jinping and President Nicolás Maduro, who have elevated diplomatic and frienship relations between the two nations to the highest level.
On various occasions, the government of Xi Jinping has expressed its highest consideration for the Venezuelan people, in the face of the unjust illegal US sanctions, preventing Venezuela from acquiring supplies, freely and sovereignly, abroad to confront the Coronavirus and protect its citizens.
The following aid shipments to Venezuela have recently arrived:
- On March 19, 4,105 diagnostic kits arrived.
- On March 28, 55 tons of humanitarian aid arrived .
- On March 30, along with 8 Chinese specialists, some 500,000 diagnostic tests arrived.
Recently, Humanitarian Technical Assistance from Russia and the United Nations System for the care and prevention of the Coronavirus have also arrived, which in turn has allowed the homeland to reduce the effects of the blockade in fighting Covid-19.
A first shipment arrived on March 24 , another arrived on April 8 in the morning, and another arrived on the same day in the afternoon, with 90 tons of aid from Russia, UNICEF and PAHO.
State of alarm extended
The Venezuelan executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, reported that the Venezuelan head of state, Nicolás Maduro, decided to extend for 30 more days the State of Constitutional Alarm decreed to combat the Covid-19 coronavirus. She explained that this Sunday the extension decree will be published in the Extraordinary Official Gazette.
“We are in an important battle, we have always spoken the truth,” Rodríguez said from the Maiquetía airport, in a farewell ceremony to doctors and specialists from the People’s Republic of China, who spent two weeks supporting and advising the Presidential Commission. Venezuelan for the fight against Covid-19.
Rodríguez explained that the disease growth curve in Venezuela is flattened and has not reached the exponential growth values of other countries, “but we cannot say that we have won this battle. We have to continue persevering in the quarantine that the people have followed with great discipline and sacrifice, ” she added. “We must continue this path because the country that is today the epicenter of this pandemic is on our continent,” she said, referring to the United States.
“But we also have neighboring countries that unfortunately have exponential curves and that could affect or disrupt this process in Venezuela,” said Rodríguez, referring to Brazil and Colombia.
China experts received the Order of Francisco de Miranda in its second class
At the event, the delegation of eight experts from the People’s Republic of China present in the country since March 30 received the Francisco de Miranda Order in its second Precursor class, for the support provided to Venezuela to combat Covid-19.
“We bid farewell to the delegation of doctors from the People’s Republic of China who arrived in the homeland with all their love and expertise to help in the fight against Covid-19,” said the vice president.
For almost two weeks, the Chinese delegation made different tours of the facilities of the Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI), and of hospitals to examine the measures taken by the National Executive to curb the spread of the virus, which already affects more 1.7 million people worldwide. They also held a meeting with the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and the Presidential Commission for the Prevention of Covid-19.
Since the first cases of Covid-19 were detected in the country, China was one of the countries that expressed its support for Venezuela. So far, three batches of humanitarian aid, from China, have arrived in Venezuela with technical material and medical supplies to address the situation.
