During the plenary session of the Special Congress of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and the Youth of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (JPSUV) that started on Thursday, September 11, the delegates resolved to move to a higher phase of revolution to defend Venezuela from the attacks of US imperialism.
“The colonialists ill not be able to win here, and our fundamental task is to ensure that,” said the secretary general of the PSUV, Diosdado Cabello, during the opening speech. “We have to move from this peaceful revolution to armed struggle in defense of our sovereignty, our independence, and our homeland.”
“This is not a conventional war; it is a different kind of war, and we must move to that phase and prepare for that phase,” he added. “This is not an apology for war, no. This is love for freedom. We have to move from peaceful revolution to an armed revolution … against the oppressor.”
He emphasized that part of the US strategy is to create division among the revolutionary forces. Therefore, he urged everyone to be in “constant active resistance on all fronts: the military, the political, the party, the economic, the cultural, the diplomatic. Those who want to attack us should know that here in Venezuela they will encounter a people who are neither willing to surrender nor to negotiate anything, because freedom and independence are not negotiable.”
In the plenary session, which also included guests from various countries, Cabello noted that some “experts” talk about the military power of the United States. In this regard, he said, “No one disputes it, but just as no one disputes it, no one can take away our right to fight, nothing and no one will take that right away from us.”
He also emphasized that imperialism and its allies, both inside and outside Venezuela, must understand that “when a people takes on a struggle with dignity and that struggle is just, nothing can stop them.” As an example, he highlighted the bravery and patriotism of the people of Vietnam against US invasion, “a small nation, without sophisticated weapons, but united and with a strong will, was able to give imperialism a lesson in sovereignty.”
Cabello further he pointed out that US imperialism is trying to use lies against Venezuela to end the Bolivarian Revolution, but this is not the first time it has applied this strategy. “Lies that they already spread in other places, lies that resulted in the invasion of those places and a large number of murders committed by imperialism,” he highlighted.
“They are not fighting against any drug-trafficking group,” he commented in this regard, referring to the US claim of fighting drug trafficking with its destroyers off the Venezuelan coasts. “What they want is to end the Bolivarian Revolution, and we, as a party, have to take a definite decision. Imperialism is determined to attack us, so no one in the world should believe their lies.”
Given the participation of international delegates in the plenary, Cabello called for a great global movement of solidarity with Venezuela to confront the threats of US military aggression. “If another were being attacked, I guarantee that Venezuela’s voice would be right there at the forefront with its people,” he stated.
