Leaders of various countries sent congratulatory messages to the government and people of Nicaragua on the 46th anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution, highlighting the historical significance of the July 1979 victory and Nicaragua’s successes in its fight against poverty and underdevelopment.
The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro called July 19, 1979 an unforgettable day. “The victory of the Sandinista National Liberation Front impacted the youth of Latin America and the Caribbean; at the age of 16 I lived intensely that insurrection and the Nicaraguan war,” he expressed.
“It was the drive of the Sandinista youth, of so many heroes and martyrs, that overthrew the Somoza dictatorship imposed by the US and responsible for the assassination of [revolutionary leader Augusto] Sandino. It is a glorious and heroic history that the people of Nicaragua have lived. Every time we visit their land we feel the energy that unites us in the resistance against imperialism,” the Venezuelan leader added, highlighting that the struggles of the Nicaraguan people constitute “a beacon for all our peoples.”
The president of Cuba, President Miguel Díaz-Canel, and historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro Ruz, congratulated co-presidents Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo of Nicaragua. They stated that “the Cuban people and government celebrate as their own the victory of the ideas of Sandino and Carlos Fonseca,” and highlighted that the Sandinista Revolution represents “a path of hope, progress and equality.”
Similarly, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez congratulated the Nicaraguan people and the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity under the leadership of Commander Daniel Ortega and Comrade Rosario Murillo.
Russian President Vladimir Putin described Nicaragua as a “reliable ally of Russia in Latin America” and reiterated his confidence in strengthening the “strategic partnership” to advance towards a “fair and democratic multipolar world order.”
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in his message, praised the resistance of the Sandinista Revolution in the face of external conspiracies.
The president of China, Xi Jinping, highlighted that Nicaragua “firmly defends sovereignty and national dignity and persists in following the path of development, adapted to the realities of its own country, steadily achieving new goals in socio-economic development.”
The government of Bolivia congratulated the Nicaraguan people and stated that the revolutionary victory of 1979 “serves as an example and inspiration for all Latin America and the Caribbean.”

The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP), Rander Peña, said in a statement: “Today, 46 years after the glorious triumph of the Sandinista Revolution, we pay tribute to the immortal courage of the Nicaraguan people, who with dignity and determination rose up against tyranny and opened a path of justice and sovereignty for all Our America.”
“ALBA celebrates this day as a victory that continues to beat in the hearts of the free peoples of the South, as a living legacy of Sandino, Bolívar and all those who never surrendered,” the statement added.
Similarly, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, stated that Nicaragua has implemented numerous social security policies that enjoy great popularity, maintain economic growth and contribute to political and social stability, as well as international integration.
“We are certain that they will continue to reap greater victories in the construction, defense and development of the nation for the benefit of the people,” added the Vietnamese communist leader.
The president of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Mahmoud Abbas, called the Sandinista Revolution glorious in his congratulatory message and added that “it inspired the struggles for independence and dignity all over the world. It is still alive in the conscience of free peoples, including our Palestinian people.”
Numerous delegations have arrived in Nicaragua to attend the commemorative acts for the 46th anniversary of the revolution. Among them are the Chinese Communist Party delegation, headed by Ma Hui, deputy minister of the International Department of its Central Committee; the Palestinian delegation, headed by Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority, and the Belarussian delegation led by Ambassador Vitali Barchuk.
Co-President Rosario Murillo reported that, in addition to the official delegations, media such as RT, Sputnik, and Telesur will participate in the commemorations, reaffirming Nicaragua’s commitment “to peace, unity and social progress” and the importance of “international solidarity” in the revolutionary process.
