The president of Venezuela, NicolĂĄs Maduro, has stated that the former president of Colombia, Ălvaro Uribe, had hired a group of hitmen to assassinate the late Chavista revolutionary leader, Robert Serra.
During a ceremony this Tuesday, October 1, for the tenth anniversary of the assassination of the then-Deputy Robert Serraâwhen he was only 27 years oldâthe Venezuelan president praised the young revolutionary, and said he was a perfect model of a fighter against fascism.
In his speech, the head of state noted that the person who was in fact responsible for the murder committed on October 1, 2014, was Ălvaro Uribe.
Venezuela’s Youth Commemorate 9th Anniversary of Robert Serra’s Assassination
âToday marks ten years,” said President Maduro, “since Ălvaro Uribe, using a group of hitmen, ordered the assassination of our Robert Serra, and ten years later we say: Robert lives on, in the hearts of the Venezuelan people!â
The head of state also noted that many people close to Serra had tried to cover up what happened with lies. However, thanks to the secret recording cameras that Serra had activated, it was possible to find out who all the perpetrators were.
The president added that when the Colombian and Venezuelan hitmen were captured, it had been discovered that the masterminds behind the attack were associated with Uribe’s political party.
âThey are hatred, intolerance, division, and violence,” President Maduro stated. “We are facing monsters.”
He also claimed that Serra’s murder was carried out in collusion with the Venezuelan far-right leaders, including Leopoldo LĂłpez and his partners.
Continuing his address at the tenth anniversary remembrance of Serra’s assassination, the head of state recalled that Robert Serra dedicated himself to working âto keep youth away from crime and from bad paths.â
President Maduro therefore called for the return of the legacy of Robert Serra’s Plan, devised to protect Venezuelan youth from crime, and for the plan to be brought back into action in honour of Serra.
Four years ago, the Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice sentenced Edwin JosĂ© Torres Camacho, Carlos Enrique GarcĂa MartĂnez, Jaime Padilla, and Leiver Padilla Mendoza, among others, to 30 years in prison for being the authors and co-authors of the murder of Robert Serra and his partner, MarĂa Herrera, by breaking into their house and assassinating them as they slept.
