The International Affairs Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation has called on parliaments around the world to condemn the US military escalation in the Caribbean, which has already resulted in 75 killings under the pretext of combating drug trafficking, according to international news agencies.
In this regard, the Duma presented a draft resolution calling upon “the parliaments of UN member states, international parliamentary organizations, and the international community to strongly condemn the increased US military presence in the southern Caribbean Sea, near Venezuela’s territorial waters, under the pretext of fighting drug cartels.”
Furthermore, the document stated that the US military presence constitutes a provocation that is leading to regional instability.
Russia also reaffirmed its support for Venezuela and urged dialogue and cooperation between nations, as well as compliance with international agreements.
Russia Suggests US Look For Drug Traffickers Among Its Own Elite
The Russian Federation has, on several occasions, condemned the US killing spree and military threats against Venezuela, most of them in the last two weeks. These military operations and assassinations have already being labeled by the United Nations as extrajudicial killings.
On November 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia is closely monitoring the situation “in the southern part of the Caribbean,” where the situation “continues to worsen” and is causing growing concern among the nations of the region, which declared the Caribbean region to be a “zone of peace” in an official 2014 resolution by CARICOM (the Caribbean Community), which comprises 15 member states.
