Recently, Venezuelan President NicolĂĄs Maduro has addressed the US public several times in English, calling for peace amid US military threats. Now, he has released a message in Portuguese to ask for support from the Brazilian people.
On Thursday, during the broadcast of his program Con Maduro de Repente, he thanked the Brazilian Landless Workers Movement (MST) for its support and a gift it sent him. “Thank you very much, Brazil,” he began.

“The struggle continues. Victory belongs to us! Long live the unity of the Brazilian people! Long live unity with the Venezuelan people!” the president added.
He then urged the Brazilian people to be “vigilant” and to “take to the streets to support Venezuela in its struggle for peace and sovereignty” in the face of Washington’s actions. “We have the right to peace with sovereignty. Long live Brazil!” he concluded.
Last month, Brazilian President Luiz InĂĄcio Lula da Silva declared that Brazil “has a responsibility in South America” and, additionally, has a border with Venezuela. For this reason, he advocated for peace and the respect of CELAC’s 2014 declaration of the region as a Zone of Peace.
“I am very concerned about the military apparatus that the US has deployed in the Caribbean Sea. I am very concerned,” he stated in a speech during the G20 summit in the South African city of Johannesburg.
In recent months, the MST, one of Brazil’s strongest grassroots organizations, has repeatedly expressed that it will form international militia brigades to join the Venezuelan people in defending sovereignty and independence in the case of a potential US invasion of Venezuela.
