The Venezuelan government described the result as a triumph of international law, after 165 countries demanded in the General Assembly the end of the coercive measure of the United States. USA
The Government of Venezuela congratulated the people and Government of Cuba for the victory achieved in the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), where the end of the U.S. blockade was demanded for the thirty-third consecutive year (since 1992).
In a statement, Caracas extended its congratulations to President Miguel DĂaz-Canel and Army General RaĂşl Castro Ruz. He described the result as a victory of dignity and international law in the face of Washington’s imperial aggression and blackmail.
The statement stresses that the vote is a sign that a multicentric and multipolar world is advancing strongly, rejecting imperial arrogance and raising Cuba’s moral prestige. Venezuela demands the immediate, total and unconditional lifting of the blockade and the end of all unilateral coercive measures.
The UN General Assembly approved on Thursday, October 29, a resolution demanding the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. The vote reflected overwhelming support for the Cuban position: 165 countries voted in favor, while only seven voted against and twelve abstained.
Among the countries that opposed the resolution are the United States, Israel, Paraguay, Hungary, North Macedonia, Argentina and Ukraine. Abstentions came from 12 countries, including Albania, Morocco and Poland.

The resolution was adopted against a backdrop of rising international tensions, with most member states stressing the need for the United States to respect the principles of sovereignty and non-interference.
During the debate prior to the vote, several countries and regional blocs reiterated their condemnation of the blockade and demanded its immediate and unconditional lifting. The interventions agreed that the measure seriously affects the economic development and well-being of the Cuban people, while lacking legal or moral justification in the international scenario.
The report presented by Cuba to the Assembly reports that the damage caused by the blockade in the last year exceeded 7,500 million dollars, which represents an increase of 49 percent compared to the previous period. Since 1992, the resolution has been almost unanimously supported, consolidating itself as one of the most consistent positions in the recent history of the UN.
