This Thursday, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro confirmed that Chevron was notified of the granting of licenses to continue its operations in Venezuela. During an interview on Telesur, he stated that Vice President Delcy RodrĂguez had been informed of the matter and confirmed it.
“As we have always told all international companies, they are welcome to work in Venezuela. During these months, while the blackmail continued, Venezuela’s oil activity grew 12%, without the need for licenses,” President Maduro emphasized.
In this regard, he mentioned that “working groups are already in place to ensure Chevron can return to its functions and work on a legal basis. It is welcome in Venezuela.”
The news of the granting of Chevron’s licenses to continue operations in Venezuela was reported by US media outlets like the Wall Street Journal and Reuters. According to these outlets, the decision was discussed in conjunction with the exchange of 10 convicted US nationals and is presented as an alleged change in Washington’s stance toward Caracas.
On June 4, Delcy RodrĂguez confirmed that crude oil extraction activity in Venezuela continues, with the presence of international oil companies. This refuted the narrative that suggested a decline in oil output in the South American country. “At this time, Chevron is in full production. At this time, ENI’s fields are in full production. At this time, Repsol’s field is in full production,” said the Venezuelan vice president and oil minister.
In June, Venezuelan oil production reached 1,069,000 barrels per day, according to data from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in its monthly bulletin. This shows a steady output above the one million mark during the first and second quarters of 2025.
