Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)—The Venezuelan government is making progress in coordinating with the Bolivian government to repatriate citizens who are in Peru and Chile through the Return to the Homeland Plan.
When 203 Venezuelans returned from the United States on Friday, July 25, Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said to the press that the Venezuelan government has to coordinate with Bolivia because Venezuelan planes cannot land in Chile and Peru due to the decision of those countries’ governments. He added that the Venezuelan embassy in Bolivia has been working on this matter for weeks.
“The issue is that the Venezuelan nationals who wish to return have to travel to Bolivia, make the request [at the Venezuelan embassy], and if everything goes as we expect, we will be making the first flight to Bolivia next week,” said Cabello.
He highlighted that the success of the process depends on ensuring that the plane is full. “We must avoid deploying an aircraft with a capacity for 200 passengers and finding only 20. So, coordination is key.”

In this regard, he pointed out that, in the case of the flights from Mexico, the arrangements “work perfectly—they tell us that they are going to send 320 people, and 320 people arrive… When a government is supportive, our work is much easier.”
The initiative with Bolivia resumes the announcement made in May, when Venezuela reported the resumption of flights from Bolivia for Venezuelans in Peru, Chile, and Argentina.

The Return to the Homeland program had repatriated, free of charge, over 1.2 million Venezuelan migrants by March 2025. In addition, approximately 7,500 more Venezuelans have arrived since that date in about 40 flights, mostly from the United States.
Initially, the repatriation flights to Latin American countries were quite recurrent until the start of the US blockade on Venezuela. With the arrival of right-wing governments or so-called left governments subjugated to US imperialism in various countries in the region, it became increasingly difficult for the Venezuelan authorities to continue with repatriation flights.
So far in 2025, the repatriation program has carried out 51 flights from countries such as Honduras, Mexico, and the US.
