Caracas (orinocotribune.com)—Venezuela condemned in the strongest terms the “colonialist threat” from the United States after President Donald Trump announced in a social media post that Venezuelan airspace is “closed.”
The full text of the Venezuelan statement, issued Saturday, Nov. 29, follows:
Venezuela denounces the colonialist threat aimed at undermining the sovereignty of its airspace, which constitutes a new, outrageous, illegal and unjustified aggression against the Venezuelan people.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemns the public message disseminated on social media by the president of the United States, through which he seeks to extraterritorially impose the illegitimate jurisdiction of the United States over Venezuela. This is a brazen attempt to issue orders and threaten Venezuela’s national airspace sovereignty, territorial integrity, aviation security, and the full sovereignty of the Venezuelan state.
Such declarations constitute a hostile, unilateral and arbitrary act incompatible with the most fundamental principles of international law. They are part of a persistent policy of aggression against our country, driven by colonial ambitions over our Latin American and Caribbean region. Venezuela declares before the world that these statements represent an explicit threat of the use of force, which is clearly and unequivocally prohibited under Article 2, paragraph 4, of the Charter of the United Nations.
This attempt at intimidation also violates Article 1 of the charter, which establishes the maintenance of international peace and security as a fundamental purpose.
Venezuela demands unconditional respect for its airspace, which is protected under the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and reaffirmed in the 1944 Chicago Convention. Its Article 1 categorically recognizes that “every State has complete and exclusive sovereignty over the airspace above its territory.”
The Venezuelan government warns that Venezuela will not accept orders, threats or interferences from any foreign power. No authority outside Venezuela’s own institutions has the right to interfere with, block or condition the use of its national airspace.
Through this latest action, the US government has unilaterally suspended scheduled weekly migrant flights operating under the Return to the Homeland Planfor the repatriation of Venezuelans. To date, 75 flights have been conducted, repatriating 13,956 Venezuelan migrants who have been welcomed back with complete love and solidarity.
We issue a direct appeal to the international community, to sovereign governments worldwide, to the United Nations, and to relevant multilateral organizations to firmly condemn this immoral act of aggression. It amounts to a direct threat against the sovereignty and security of our homeland, the Caribbean and northern South America. Venezuela will respond with dignity, legality and with all the strength of international law and the anti-imperialist spirit of our people.
Venezuela will continue to fully exercise its sovereignty—protected by international law—throughout its entire airspace. This threat against Venezuela is a threat against continental peace, and our peoples, heirs of Liberator Simón Bolívar, will prevail.

Iran’s reaction to Trump’s announcement
Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned Trump’s statement, calling it “arbitrary” and an “unprecedented threat” to the safety and security of international aviation.
On Saturday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei warned the move could have “dangerous consequences” for the rule of law, peace and global security. He emphasized it not only violates international air transport rules but is also part of a series of “provocative and illegal actions” by Washington threatening Venezuela’s sovereignty and international law.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil thanked Iran for its stance. “Your courageous and resolute stance in defense of Venezuela’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity resonates deeply with our people,” Gil wrote on social media. “The violation of fundamental norms and principles of international law, as well as threats to the safety and security of international aviation, are shared concerns that unite us in our struggle for a world of justice, dignity and peace.”
With Imaginary Decree, Trump Attempts to ‘Close’ Venezuela’s Airspace
Statement from Cuba
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez accused the United States of creating “persistent electromagnetic interference” in Caribbean airspace, specifically over Venezuela, linking it to the US military deployment in the region, which Caracas considers an aggression aimed at seizing Venezuelan resources.
Denunciamos persistente interferencia electromagnética en el Caribe, particularmente sobre el espacio aéreo de #Venezuela, provocada por el ofensivo y extraordinario despliegue militar de #EEUU en la región.

“We denounce persistent electromagnetic interference in the Caribbean, particularly over Venezuelan airspace, caused by the offensive and extraordinary US military deployment in the region,” Rodríguez wrote. He said these actions constitute “an escalation of military aggression and psychological warfare against Venezuelan territory, aimed at overthrowing by force the legitimate government of that sister nation of our America.”
