Venezuelan Minister for the Interior, Justice, and Peace Diosdado Cabello condemned a plot by the US chargé d’affaires in Colombia, John McNamara, and the Guyanese ambassador in Venezuela, Richard Vans West-Charles, “to escalate the dispute over Esequibo.”
Cabello made this statement on Wednesday, August 13, in his program Con El Mazo Dando, amid heightened tensions surrounding the historical controversy.
On Monday, a Venezuelan delegation led by Vice President Delcy Rodríguez submitted a new document to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), expanding the evidence on the historical basis of Venezuela’s rights over the Essequibo region. This document contains additional evidence that, according to the officials, is “more than sufficient” to demonstrate the dispossession and the “criminal Arbitral Award” based on a “forged, illegitimate, illegal treaty” that sought to strip Venezuela of its territory.

Accusations against María Corina Machado
In addition to the situation in Essequibo, Diosdado Cabello also criticised María Corina Machado’s actions. According to his information, Machado is negotiating oil deals with John McNamara. Apparently, McNamara has a great interest in introducing his own crude oil marketing companies into the Venezuelan oil business. This accusation, which links an opposition figure with a foreign official, adds another layer of complexity to the country’s internal and external political tensions.
Cabello further alleged that McNamara is “planning a coup in Colombia and Venezuela. I do not know what Colombian intelligence is waiting for to report him and Petro to expel him.” This allegation is particularly serious, as it suggests direct foreign interference in the internal affairs of two sovereign countries.
