Venezuela Warns of Far-Right Plot to Bomb US Embassy in False Flag Operation

Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)—On Sunday night, Venezuela reported that local far-right extremists are planning to plant explosives at the closed United States embassy in Caracas in what it called a false flag operation.

Jorge Rodríguez, the head of the Venezuelan Peace Dialogues process and president of the National Assembly, reported that Caracas warned the US government about the intelligence report using three different channels. An incident of this caliber could be used to justify a direct US military action against Venezuela.

“As Venezuela’s head of dialogue and peace, I want to announce that we have warned the US government through three different channels of a serious threat, a false flag operation orchestrated by extremist sectors of the local far-right,” Rodríguez said. “They are attempting to plant lethal explosives in the US embassy in Venezuela.”

He added that “we have also alerted a European embassy of these reports, urging it to inform US diplomatic personnel of the seriousness of this information.”

The top Venezuelan official mentioned that they “have strengthened security measures at this diplomatic headquarters, which our government respects and protects.”

Venezuela’s defense of the closed US embassy in Caracas greatly differs from the illegal 2019 US occupation of the Venezuelan embassy in Washington, DC, when diplomatic relations were severed.

Far-right desperation
On Monday, Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said that the far-right’s plans to attack the US embassy demonstrate the desperation of this political sector, which is currently more isolated than ever.

Minister Cabello made this statement during the United Socialist Party of Venezuela’s (PSUV) weekly press conference, referring to the alert made by Jorge Rodríguez. He added that law enforcement agencies have redoubled their efforts to ensure protection of the embassy.

He noted that the far-right needs “bloodshed in Venezuela” because it is the only method they have “to make money and continue surviving in politics.” He called on the Venezuelan people and the PSUV to be on alert throughout the country and to warn authorities about any “strange” movement.

Criticism of the US embassy “operation”
The alert comes amid existing scrutiny over the US presence in Caracas. Last September, a report from the State Department’s Office of the Inspector General criticized the US government for employing a considerable staff of 150 Venezuelans and spending over $6.7 million annually to maintain the closed embassy and other diplomatic properties. This is despite having severed relations with the government of President Nicolás Maduro in 2019.

The report, cited by the Los Angeles Times in a note signed by AP’s Joshua Goodman, “criticized US officials for failing to conduct a required cost-benefit analysis to determine whether taxpayers should continue to pay for the security, operations, and maintenance of the embassy complex.”

Days later, Venezuelan lawyer Ignacio Ramírez Romero published an article in Diario VEA warning that the presence of these local employees at the embassy could become a “Trojan horse.”

“Venezuela must order the immediate investigation and removal of 150 Venezuelans who have apparently entered the United States Embassy, suddenly and surreptitiously, to operate within it,” he began his analysis. “Their actions constitute a kind of military tactical advance, like a Trojan Horse, increasing the imminent danger posed by the presence of a dangerous naval fleet of the US Navy threateningly sailing along our coasts near the Caribbean Sea.”
