The success of the new dialogue process between the Parliament and the opposition sector represented by former deputies of the defunct 2015 National Assembly of Venezuela will depend on prioritizing national sovereignty, including all social sectors, and maintaining independence from foreign tutelage. This was stated by political leaders Claudio Fermín, Luis Martínez, and Felipe Mujica, who agreed that negotiation is the only way to overcome the economic and political crisis facing the country.
According to Claudio Fermín, president of Soluciones para Venezuela, an opposition party not aligned with the far right, the defense of national territory must take precedence over any partisan agenda or political succession.
During an interview on Globovisión, Fermín warned that the Trump administration and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio want to control the country’s gold, oil, laws, and legislative power.
On Thursday, August 6, a sui generis new negotiation was initiated in Caracas between a Venezuelan government delegation and a delegation of a faction of the far-right opposition controled by the US.
For his part, former National Assembly Deputy Luis Martínez declared that, to achieve concrete results, “it is necessary to prioritize collective interests.”
He said that the negotiations cannot be limited exclusively to political debate but must open up to the social and economic needs of the entire population.
In line with the need for broad participation, former deputy from the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) party, Felipe Mujica, insisted that the success of the agreements lies in solutions being created strictly by Venezuelans. MAS is a political party that has been more aligned with the far-right opposition despite a marginal support base.
He claimed that, so far, a truly inclusive scheme that would allow other sectors of civil society to express opinions, help, and contribute to finding solutions for the issues discussed has not been started.
On Friday, August 7, it was reported that the current round of the negotiations, scheduled to conclude on August 12, is going on at the Melia Hotel, Caracas.
