Following the warning, issued this Sunday by the head of dialogue processes in Venezuela, Jorge RodrĂguez, of a possible attack on the United States embassy, President Nicolás Maduro noted that Venezuela’s intelligence system has produced accurate and significant reports and that authorities are now searching for individuals involved in the plot, as they are still in Venezuela.
The US Embassy in Caracas has been technically closed since early 2019.
On Monday night, during the program Con Maduro+, alongside Colombian journalist Patricia Villegas, the Venezuelan head of state revealed that the investigations and monitoring by law enforcement agencies were guided by two reliable sources, one within the country and one outside, who detailed how a local extremist terrorist group was planning to place an explosive device in or near the United States embassy in Caracas.
“It is a typical ‘false flag’ operation,” said President Maduro, “a typical provocation that then uses its communication power, through networks and media, to blame the Venezuelan government and begin an escalation of confrontation where no one will ask how they did it, who did it, or where. No one will listen to anyone; instead, they will hear the rattle of machine guns and missiles.”
The president reported that Jorge RodrĂguez informed US officials where those responsible for planning this terrorist attack, allegedly perpetrated by sectors of the Venezuelan far-right, can be found.
The president reported that the Venezuelan government is “pursuing the search and capture of those involved who are in Venezuelan territory.” The actions were planned by an individual whose identity was not revealed because the investigation is ongoing. “It was endorsed and requested by a person whose identity will soon be known,” said President Maduro.
President Maduro reflected how faced with an incident like this, under US threat on Venezuela’s shores, one must ask themselves “the classic question that every investigator must ask themselves: who benefits from this crime?”
He indicated that the reaction of those who contacted Jorge RodrĂguez was positive and that all necessary measures were taken. For his part, Minister of the Interior Diosdado Cabello sent a task group from the Venezuelan Diplomatic Police to reinforce and coordinate with the security personnel at the United States embassy, who are responsible for maintaining the large complex of buildings.
The US embassy in Caracas has not formally operated as a diplomatic mission since 2019 when diplomatic relations between both countries where severed after the US recognized Juan GuaidĂł as “interim president” of Venezuela. The failed US “regime”-change operation was launched in January 2019 when little-known right-wing politician GuaidĂł, who had never received a single vote for the presidency nor even attempted to run in the elections, declared himself “interim president” of Venezuela in a Caracas plaza.
Venezuela Warns of Far-Right Plot to Bomb US Embassy in False Flag Operation
The president reiterated that Venezuela respects the Geneva Agreement on Diplomatic Relations, as mandated by international law. On the other hand, the Venezuelan embassy in Washington, DC, was not treated in a manner that was in accordance with international law. The occupants of the Venezuelan embassy were forcefully evicted by armed police, numerous occupants were arrested, and the embassy was handed over to the pretender GuaidĂł. Subsequently, numerous valuable items went missing.
“The United States embassy in Venezuela is United States territory, unlike our embassies in Washington, which, as everyone knows, were attacked, seized, and are illegally occupied,” President Maduro explained during the interview. “It has now been confirmed, and I, personally, was only able to verify that there was a credible and highly destructive threat posed by the terrorist group that was planning the plot. I requested that my colleague Jorge RodrĂguez communicate with the United States government by all means possible.”
