Delcy Rodriguez: Mike Pence Undermines the Constitutional Rule of Law of Venezuela

January 12, 2019

The vice president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, lashed Thursday night the recent statements of the Vice President of the United States (USA), Mike Pence, by not recognizing the new presidential term of the head of state, Nicolás Maduro, this January 10, 2019.

“Again the deputy chief of the empire @VPPence opens his inadequate mouth to attack the Constitutional Rule of Law! Shame on the part of the military conglomerate that attempts against world peace! In Venezuela, the people rule, not the oligarchic elites! We will make them respect us,” she said in her Twitter account.

President Maduro, who was sworn in this Thursday before the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), with a National Assembly in contempt since 2016, swore for a new constitutional period 2019-2025.

For his new presidential term, the Venezuelan head of state was elected with 67.84% of the votes of the people, which translates into 6 million 248,864 voters, in the elections held on May 20, 2018.

The ceremony held the morning of this Thursday, was attended by representatives of 94 nations and international organizations, among which the presidents of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel; from Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega; of Bolivia, Evo Morales, and of El Salvador, Salvador Sánchez Cerén.
