The Superior Court of Justice, through the acting president of the body, Óscar Hassenteufel, confirmed that Evo Morales is not the leader of the ruling Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) party, and that the National Action Party (PAN-BOL) does not have legal status.
With this, the electoral court established that the former president is not a candidate to compete for the presidency of the Latin American country in the elections on August 17.
“Under Article 2023 of the State’s Political Constitution, the decisions and rulings of the Plurinational Constitutional Court are binding and subject to mandatory compliance, and there is no further appeal against them,” Hassenteufel stated in the letter he addressed to Morales.
Authorities had previously established that Morales was ineligible to run for the presidency, as he had already served the maximum number of terms allowed by the Constitution.
