During his podcast, Con Maduro Live de Repente, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro addressed the situation in the disputed Essequibo region, reiterating his position on Venezuelan sovereignty.
The president made clear during his podcast, broadcasted this Tuesday, April 1, that the people of Venezuela are firm on the issue. This was said as a response to statements that have been reaffirmed by figures such as the secretary of state for the US empire, Marco Rubio, and Venezuelan far-right opposition leaders, María Machado and Edmundo González, that “Guayana Esequiba is not Venezuelan.”
The head of state also recalled that a vote was held on December 13, 2023, in which over 90% of Venezuelans “approved the creation of the state of Guayana Esequiba and the advancement of a constitutional legal process, within the framework of international law, for the recovery of the Essequibo territory.”
“Marco Rubio, ‘the godfather,’ the mafia boss, of María Machado and González Urrutia,” highlighted President Maduro, “says that Guayana Esequiba belongs to Irfaan Ali and ExxonMobil,” the position of which he reiterated lacks any legal or historical support.

Addressing the Navy and Army officers of the National Bolivarian Armed Forces, he stated that Venezuela’s military is clear on the issue, and that “Guyana Esequiba is Venezuelan territory, inherited from Simón Bolívar and the liberators.”
He rejected the recent statements made by Rubio and his imperial allies, and emphasized that “historical rights, documents, maps, and history support the fact that Guayana Esequiba is Venezuelan territory.”
“Neither you, Marco Rubio, nor anyone else is going to take that territory away from Venezuela,” President Maduro added. “You’ll see!”
