Protest Against Guaido’s Visit to Spain

January 25, 2020

Activists from different social organizations gathered on Saturday in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid to repudiate the visit of Venezuelan opposition deputy Juan GuaidĂł.

In Madrid, protesters reject the rightist politician’s claim to pass for the president in charge of Venezuela.

They emphasize that to be president, they have to be elected by the people and remind that Nicolás Maduro is the constitutional president of the South American country.

The demonstrators showed posters in which they described GuaidĂł as “clown manufactured by the empire” and demanded his departure from Madrid.

Guaidó arrived at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas airport at 3:00 p.m. (local time) and plans to meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya. President Pedro Sanchez declined to hold a meeting with the Venezuelan deputy.

The Venezuelan politician has been on an international tour since last weekend, which began in Colombia. Then, GuaidĂł went to London, where he also had to face popular rejection in a protest by the members of the “Hands off Venezuela” movement.
