The United States Department of Justice accused former deputy Adel El Zabayar on Wednesday, May 27, of narcoterrorism, drug trafficking, and gun crime.
According to local media, El Zabayar was singled out by the Manhattan federal court of participating in a narcoterrorism conspiracy, as well as the importation of cocaine and weapons-related crimes involving the use and possession of machine guns and destructive devices.
The alleged commission of these crimes, added the media, had the support of the Los Soles Cartel and the alleged terrorist organizations, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Hezbollah and Hamas.

According to Manhattan federal prosecutor Geoffrey S. Berman, El Zabayar “was a key part of the apparatus that conspired to export literally tons of cocaine to the US,” obtained military-grade weapons from the Middle East, by air cargo and he intended to recruit extremists.
Adel EL Zabayar is a naturalized Venezuelan of Syrian origin. He became an active militant of Venezuelan Communist Party (PCV). In 2006 he followed the call of President Hugo Chavez and joined the ranks of the newly founded PSUV, becoming a deputy from 2011 until 2015.
Faced with such an accusation, the former deputy rejected by means of a message published on his Twitter account his complete rejection of said lies. He asserted that this is an attempt to discredit his image by remaining loyal to Venezuela and Syria.
“It is an honor that the great enemies of my native country, Venezuela and ancestral Syria, are so enraged with me that they invent so much falsehood. It means that we are doing our job well. Let us continue. Syria and Venezuela will win,” he said.
Adding to this trend, today Reuters announced that there are also new charges being prepared against Venezuelan first lady, Cilia Flores. Analyst agree on seeing these new and sudden announcements as a desperate response by Trump’s regime to its the evident defeat by Iran and Venezuela in bypassing the US naval blockade against Venezuela and bringing much needed gasoline for Venezuelans affected by US sanctions.
