President Maduro Condemns Assassination Attempt Against Donald Trump

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, on Saturday condemned the attack on former President of the United States, Donald Trump. “We have been adversaries, but I wish former President Trump good health and a long life. I repudiate that attack,” the Venezuelan head of state emphasized during a multitudinous campaign rally with the people of Guacara, Carabobo state, where he recalled that he has also been a victim of attacks against his life.

Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was attacked by gunfire on Saturday, July 13, as he was speaking at a political rally in the city of Butler, Pennsylvania. As a result of the attack, the former president was injured in one ear, but the injury is not serious and his life is not in danger. However, one of the attendees at the rally was killed and two people wounded. They are in stable condition.

While the assassination attempts against the life of President Nicolás Maduro has been disregarded by the US government and mainstreams media, even with evidence showing the truth of the matter, the attitude of President Maduro in contrast recognizing and condemning the political violence in the United States is recognized by analysts as an act of statehood and humanity.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said that at approximately 6:15 p.m., the suspect fired multiple shots toward the stage where Trump was standing from an elevated position outside the event grounds. Secret Service personnel killed the shooter and are currently conducting an investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press (AP), citing law enforcement officials, reported that the incident is being investigated as attempted murder. An AR-type rifle was also found at the scene, according to mainstream media.

Trial for Assassination Attempt on President Maduro Reaches Final Stage

In his first remarks after the attack, Trump thanked all the security forces, especially the Secret Service, for their quick response. He also sent his condolences to the families of the victims. “I was shot with a bullet that went through the top of my right ear. I immediately knew something was wrong, because I heard a whizzing sound, gunshots, and immediately felt the bullet tearing my skin. I was bleeding a lot and then I realized what was happening,” he said in a statement shared on his social media accounts.

For his part, the current US president, Joe Biden, after being informed about the matter, held an improvised press conference in which he described the attack against his opponent as “disgusting.” Biden further added, “The idea that there is political violence or violence in the United States like this is simply unheard of. It is simply not appropriate. Everyone must condemn it.”.

On the other hand, President Maduro referred to the announcement made earlier this Saturday by opposition leader Carlos Prosperi, to support him for reelection. In this regard, Maduro said: “Here we have room for all those who want peace, come with me, those who want independence, come with me, those who want national unity and full recovery of Venezuela, come with me.”
