The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, repudiated on Tuesday the interventionist statements made this Monday by the European Union (EU) on the parliamentary elections, which must be held this year as established by the Constitution. Below, part of the interventionist statement:
“Free and fair legislative and presidential elections that respect international standards are key to overcome the crisis in Venezuela. An independent and balanced CNE as well as a level playing field enabling the participation of political parties and candidates is a cornerstone for a credible electoral process. The EU calls on the government and opposition to engage in meaningful and inclusive negotiations towards the constitution of the CNE and the lifting of bans on opposition parties. All national actors should go back to the negotiating table, in the interest of all Venezuelans.”

During a video conference with the national leadership of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), the Venezuelan head of state said that elections will be held in the country to elect the new members of the National Assembly (AN).
“In Venezuela there will be elections, enough is enough! We are the backyard of no one! Solve your Covid-19 and racism issues and get out of Venezuela! Go far away. Here we have demolished years of colonialism, all the statues of the colonialists and the murderers, enough of you!” he said.

“An independent and balanced CNE, as well as fair conditions that allow the participation of political parties and candidates, are the cornerstone of a credible electoral process,” reads a statement by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, quoted by international media just one day after holding a video conference with US Department of State, Mike Pompeo.
Venezuelan Supreme Court upon request of opposition parties appointed and swore in the new authorities for the National Electoral Council (CNE) a major step to advance in the call for parliamentary elections mandated by the Venezuelan Constitution to be held in 2020.
The Venezuelan government and some political parties at the beginning of this year reached an agreement to select the new CNE board but due to reiterated delays coming from the political parties submissive to the US – led regime change operation, known as G-4 and the ending of the minimum time needed to prepare the elections, the state moved without this parties that evidently profit from being under US tutelage.
