The president of Venezuela and presidential candidate from the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Nicolás Maduro, criticized the social media TikTok the censoring his official account. His account was blocked during the transmission of a live broadcast of his tour of La Costanera Avenue to inaugurate this road in the state of Anzoátegui, on Saturday, June 29.
“We were transmitting live on TikTok and our account was censored. What are you afraid of?” the president asked. “You think that censoring me on social media is going to stop the people of Venezuela. The people will not be stopped by anyone, not by TikTok, not even by a thousand TikToks. I am carried by the wave of David against Goliath and the evil empire.”
Maduro vs. US Election Interference: A Battle for Venezuela’s Future
In recent days, President Maduro has condemned the censorship that the media corporations have been imposing against him on social media. However, he said that “we are going to break the censorship” with the conscience of the people.
“We are going to break the social media censorship because we have the only force that can do it, and that is the massive conscience of a people who know that they are the majority,” he said during his visit to Anzoátegui state.
He also expressed his gratitude to those who have joined in denouncing the “media ban,” and added that “the great task of democratizing the media” remains ongoing.
