The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, condemned the US government’s fabrication of false drug trafficking claims with the aim of justifying an aggression against Venezuela and carrying out a “regime change” operation.
“It is a mistake to try to create an absolutely false dossier on the issue of drug trafficking to attack an entire country, to denigrate the institutions of a country,” said the president on Friday, September 5, during the launch of the first activation cycle of the Bolivarian Militia in the communal circuits of the country. “The US is trying to try to cover up [its intentions] with a dirty, Hollywood-style dossier that classifies the good guys and the bad guys, where Latinos are always the bad guys and the gringos are always the good guys.”
He urged the United States government to abandon its violent regime change plan in Venezuela, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and respect the sovereignty, the right to peace, and the independence of our countries, “heroically won by our liberators.”
President Maduro also pointed out that the honor of the FANB officers is being tarnished by false reports, despite the fact that the Venezuelan armed forces are actively combating drug trafficking. In this regard, he cited the report by the United Nations , which specifies that Venezuela is irrelevant in drug trafficking.
President Maduro called the attempt to link Venezuela with drugs “a dirty, Hollywood-style script.” He reminded all the case of Iraq, where the government of Saddam Hussein was accused of possessing weapons of mass destruction to justify its overthrow by the US, an accusation that later proved to be false.
“With all due respect, I tell you, Mr. President Trump, Venezuela must be respected,” President Maduro emphasized, adding that the intelligence reports presented to Trump about Venezuela “are false.”
He added that Venezuela does not have any cocaine production and it is actively combating drug trafficking. He suggested that data from scientific organizations such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and other global entities, which show Venezuela’s significant achievements in combating drug trafficking, be provided to Trump.
“If there is someone sensible who is close to President Trump, please pass him the data from the United Nations scientific body and other global organizations, which say that Venezuela is a country that has made great strides in its fight against drug trafficking,” he said.
President Maduro reiterated that Venezuela “is not relevant in terms of drug trafficking,” that only 5% of the drugs that reach the United States pass through Venezuela, that most of the drugs that reach the US comes from Ecuador and goes through the Pacific, and that this year Venezuela has achieved a 70% seizure rate.
Ecuador ruled by drug mafias
International reports certify that of the total amount of cocaine trafficked from Colombia and Ecuador to the United States, 87% transits through the Pacific Ocean.
Showing a map, President Maduro explained, “Since Daniel Noboa came to power [in Ecuador], the amount of cocaine passing through Ecuador rose from 20% to 60%… Colombian cocaine now leaves through Ecuadorian ports, thanks to President Daniel Noboa, a fake president. Meanwhile, 8% leaves from La Guajira, northern Colombia, and only 5% try to pass through Venezuela.”
He added that he would convey this information to Donald Trump and that political differences between the two countries should not escalate to a high-impact military conflict and violence in South America, because there is no justification.
“We are willing to converse and dialog, we demand respect for our country, for our people,” he emphasized, addressing Trump. “And we will continue to defend the truth of Venezuela, no matter the cost … We may have differences in ways of thinking, in our philosophical, political, economic position, but please, do not let another lie be fed to you, leading to another war now in South America and the Caribbean. Latin America and the Caribbean want peace.”
Operational readiness plan
President Maduro presented an Operational Readiness Plan, which includes various stages:
- Readiness and preparation,
- Deployment of defensive capabilities and training,
- Unarmed struggle and,
- Phase of armed struggle in case Venezuela is attacked.
“We are in the phase of readiness and preparation, and we are going to enter the phase of deploying defensive capabilities and training,” the president announced. “We are in the phase of unarmed struggle, which is a political, communicational, national, and international phase, a phase of diplomacy, but if Venezuela is attacked in any way, we would enter a stage of armed struggle classified as defense of peace, territorial integrity, and the sovereignty of our people.”
He mentioned that operational readiness includes the activation of the Communal Militia Units, which summon the enlisted personnel and create the communal bases for comprehensive defense.
He added that the mobilization of territorial militias and combat units will begin next week. This action will be carried out under the concept of territory of peace and sovereignty by the Strategic Regions of Comprehensive Defense (REDI) and Operational Zones of Comprehensive Defense (ZODI). “We always remain on alert,” the president declared.
