Venezuela confirmed this Thursday, April 13, new cases due to the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) for a total 311, reported the president, Nicolás Maduro. In statements broadcast by Venezolana de TelevisiĂłn, he indicated that the 13 cases are located in the Nueva Esparta state, which became “the territorial venue with the highest number of positive cases for Covid-19,” followed by Miranda state with 88, Distrito Capital with 31, and Aragua with 29.
During an event the President pointed out that “without a doubt the model applied by Venezuela to contain the pandemic has produced positive results.” He indicated that “humanity is experiencing a complicated situation and Venezuela is facing this situation with great awareness, with great patience, with great social, family, and community organization,” he stressed.
This has allowed the country to achieve containment of the pandemic by at least 90 percent. “Right now we are approaching a key milestone -according to scientists, medical statisticians and experts, according to the analysis carried out by the teams — because we are making progress throughout the national territory in breaking the transmission chain,” explained the national president from Miraflores Palace in Caracas.
Likewise, he indicated that to date, 126 patients have recovered after receiving free treatment, which is equivalent to 40.5% of cases.
More than 108 thousand health workers deployed
A total of 108,409 health workers are deployed throughout the national territory to take care of all the people with symptoms of the Covid-19 coronavirus, Maduro said. Of the total figure, 65,106 are in the regional health directorates, 7,031 belong to the Venezuelan Institute of Social Security (IVSS), 21,752 are part of the Cuban Medical Mission, while 14,520 are part of other health care entities.
In this sense, he pointed out that the national government also has 398 Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI), which are fully equipped throughout the national territory. Similarly, Venezuela has 58 hospitals that function as Sentinel Centers, and 60 certified clinics and 13,000 basic health teams deployed in the communities.
In this regard, he thanked the alliance with the private health sector to address the pandemic situation in the country, which overall has already registered 311 positive cases, 126 recovered and 10 deceased.
During his statement, the Venezuelan president indicated that the country has more than 27,000 beds and 4,500 beds in Intensive Care Units. “Venezuela was prepared for the worst, but we have forestalled it,” he stressed.
