The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) expressed its regret regarding Brazil’s decision to prevent Venezuela from joining BRICS. The other BRICS member states had seemingly reached a consensus to approve Venezuela’s entry.
ALBA-TCP stated in a press release that it “regrets that, at this crucial moment for the future of the world, a country has broken the consensus in this space of cooperation to exclude sister countries, preventing, for now, the entry of Venezuela.”
Venezuela, stated ALBA-TCP, “has the material conditions necessary to strengthen BRICS in the region and the historical values that have promoted solidarity, cooperation, as well as a new type of multilateralism.”
ALBA-TCP also congratulated Cuba and Bolivia on their entry into BRICS as “partner” countries, which is an important step towards a multipolar world.
Speech of the President of China at 16th BRICS Summit in Russia
The BRICS summit took place in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24, and ended with the announcement of “partner” countries, distinguishing these countries from the nations that are full BRICS members.
The list of those selected still needs to be definitively approved by the 10 BRICS member states.
