This Monday, the government of China stated that US actions in the Caribbean “threaten regional peace and security.” This stance comes after Caracas reported that last Friday, a US destroyer intercepted and seized a small Venezuelan fishing boat for eight hours.
At a press conference, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of China Lin Jian said, “the actions taken by the US have threatened regional peace and security, seriously violated the sovereignty, security and legitimate rights of other countries and violated international law.”
Furthermore, the spokesperson urged Washington “not to use the fight against drug trafficking as an excuse to undermine the economic security of all countries and the freedoms and rights they enjoy under international law.”

In this context, Jian also emphasized that his country supports the fight against cross-border crime, but “opposes the unilateral and excessive use of force” and “external interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs under any pretext.”
Regional threat
Over the weekend, a Telesur correspondent in Venezuela, Madelein Garcia, published a video of the exact moment in which a US Navy destroyer assaulted a fishing boat sailing 48 nautical miles northeast of La Blanquilla Island, in waters of Venezuela’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
“The warship deployed eighteen troops with long weapons who boarded and occupied the small, harmless vessel for eight hours,” Venezuela’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported Saturday in a statement shared by Foreign Minister Yvan Gil.
The episode adds to the scale of US actions in the region since international media reported a US military deployment in the southern Caribbean to supposedly confront drug cartels. Similarly, US Attorney General Pamela Bondi doubled the reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on the unfounded charge that he is the leader of a “drug cartel.”

Maduro salutes China’s support
During a press conference held on Monday with local and international journalists, President Maduro thanked China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the statement.
A few hours later, the US government announced that the US regime had carried out another bloody strike against another small boat of the type that is used by Venezuelans fishing off the coast. This second small boat was carrying three male civilians and, according to the ruler of the US, was allegedly carrying drugs, marking a new escalation in the US regime-change operation that is masquerading as an operation to counter narcotics trafficking.
