Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)—The governments of Brazil, Colombia, and México have published a joint statement regarding the situation following the results of the presidential elections in Venezuela, which took place on July 28.
The statement, made public on Thursday, August 8, stated that the three Latin American countries believe that the National Electoral Council of Venezuela (CNE) must present the results of the electoral process in full, based on the principles that the CNE is the legally responsible institution to do this as established by the Venezuelan Constitution, thus calling for respecting the sovereignty of Venezuela in the electoral process.

Joint statement by Brazil, Colombia, and México on the elections in Venezuela
Bogotá, Colombia, August 8, 2024
The foreign ministers of Brazil, Colombia, and México, by mandate of their respective presidents, met virtually yesterday, August 7, 2024, to continue discussing the current situation in Venezuela.
They consider it essential that the National Electoral Council of Venezuela (CNE) present the results of the presidential elections of July 28, 2024, broken down by polling station. Taking note of the process initiated before the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela (TSJ) regarding the electoral process, they start from the premise that the CNE is the body that is legally responsible for the transparent dissemination of the electoral results.
What is Petro, Lula, and AMLO’s Diplomatic Strategy for Venezuela?
They reaffirm the need to allow impartial verification of the results, respecting the fundamental principle of popular sovereignty. They also reiterate the call to the country’s political and social actors to exercise maximum caution and moderation in demonstrations and public events and to the country’s security forces to guarantee the full exercise of this democratic right within the limits of the law. Respect for Human Rights must prevail in all circumstances.
Expressing once again their respect for the sovereignty and will of the Venezuelan people, they announced that they will continue with high-level talks, and emphasized their conviction and confidence that solutions to the current situation must come from Venezuela. In this regard, they reiterated their willingness to support efforts for dialogue and the search for understandings that contribute to political stability and democracy in the country.
