Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)โIn view of Venezuela’s upcoming gubernatorial and parliamentary elections, scheduled for April 27, this Thursday, January 6, the president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Nicolรกs Maduro, reported that from March 5 to 8, the process of postulation and selection of the PSUV candidates will be launched with the popular power. The announcement was made at the closing of the PSUV Extraordinary Congress, where over 2,300 delegates participated.
President Maduro instructed all members of the party’s leadership, “By March 5 to 8, we must have prepared the consultation process, decisions, alliances, and the complete list and map of candidates for the 24 governorships of the country and 277 deputy positions for the new National Assembly on the way to April 27 and the victory that we are going to build.”
The Venezuelan president pointed out that the preparation is quite complex, and collective monitoring must be carried out to ensure that the summary document of the PSUV and JPSUV Congress is prepared in all its parts.
Overall, 47,000 grassroots assemblies will be held to nominate candidates for each territorial entity. The candidates will later be evaluated by the PSUV National Directorate using various methods to be confirmed as the official candidates for the April 27 elections.
President Maduro urged the heads of communities and Units of Battle Hugo Chรกvez (UBCHs) throughout the country to be the protagonists of the nomination and support processes to select the best and place individuals to fill the positions in times of transformation and acceleration of revolutionary changes.
Maduro remarked during his speech that the public post title is insignificant and the most important thing is the causes that Chavismo defends. He also called on the party members to avoid sectarianism and organize all the party’s strength to participate in the communes to enhance the communal power and solve the problems of the people.
For organizational issues, Maduro recommended reactivating the Vice Presidency for Political Alliances to incorporate the proposals of other political organizations belonging to the Great Patriotic Pole. He suggested this new vice presidency be renamed the Vice Presidency for the Great Historic Block, naming Miranda State Governor Hรฉctor Rodrรญguez as its head. He also recommended the creation of a party Secretary General Office with Diosdado Cabello as the head.
Congress conclusions
PSUV Vice President Diosdado Cabello read the following conclusions of the party’s extraordinary congress:
โข We reiterate our commitment to the legacy of the Liberator Simรณn Bolรญvar and Commander Hugo Chรกvez.
โข We salute the popular victories led by Nicolรกs Maduro that have secured peace in the country and the right to sovereignty, self-determination, independence, and well-being. The victory over the 2024 fascist aggression has been key for this.
โข We recognize the heroic effort of our people that, under the leadership of Nicolรกs Maduro, has been advancing in the process of political stability and economic recovery despite the aggression by extremist sectors under the direction of imperialism expressed through the criminal blockade and fascist violence.
โข We will continue participating in the defense of our homeland under the principle of civic-military-police unity, which is indispensable to safeguard our interests.
โข We commit ourselves to continue working aligned with the Seven Transformations (7T) launched by our President Nicolรกs Maduro, which serves as the guide for the new historic phase of the Bolivarian Revolution.
โข We note the strategic importance of continuing the historic Bolivarian project of building the new phase of the transition to socialism. To achieve this, it is necessary to control the spaces of political power through participatory and protagonist democracy.
โข We propose activating communal political teams in 2025 as bodies to strengthen popular power, align the PSUV structures in each commune, and, thus, contribute to the consolidation of democracy.
โข In this new phase, we assume the sectorial organization of workers, campesinos, fisherpeople, technicians, and professionalsโincorporating the need to form the new historic block.
โข We commit ourselves to constructing the great Bolivarian and Chavista historic block of the 21st century as the main task to continue incorporating all patriotic sectors that defend the national interest and the country’s development.
PSUV Special Congress Begins in Venezuela (+27 April Elections)
โข We approve the proposal presented by the National PSUV Directorate, following Act 6 of the party statutes and its internal democracy methods, combining grassroots consultation from the bottom-up and intermediate to select party candidates to win the upcoming April 27 elections. The proposal suggests the postulation of candidates via grassroots assemblies on the following tentative dates: first, Saturday, February 15, and Sunday, 16; second, Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, 23. It also proposes using opinion polls and other measuring tools with a methodology to be designed by the PSUV national directorate to consider the involvement of the candidates in communal councils and their performance in the 1×10 good governance method, among others.
โข We propose to elevate the National PSUV Directorate with the postulations from the aforementioned mechanisms in order for the candidates to be selected. The final decision is in the hands of President Nicolรกs Maduro, along with the high political command of the revolution.
