The governments of China and Russia reject any politicization of the coronavirus pandemic and agree to strengthen their cooperation to fight the outbreak.
During a telephone conversation on Thursday, the presidents of Russia and China, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, respectively, have agreed to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19), including exchanges of specialists, the supply of medical equipment, protection and medicine.
“Both leaders have expressed confidence that, if they continue to work closely, our countries will be able to successfully overcome the challenges associated with the pandemic,” reads a statement issued by the Kremlin.
The Russian president has also praised China’s management of the outbreak and has denounced the “politicization” and the “counterproductive attempts” to accuse Beijing of not informing the international community in a timely manner about the emergence of a dangerous infection.
The Chinese president calls for “greater international cooperation” to fight COVID-19 and avoid hostile acts, such as those carried out by the United States against Beijing.

Xi also has warned that “politicizing and assigning labels on the COVID-19 pandemic is detrimental to international cooperation,” while asserting that “under Putin’s strong leadership,” Russia will succeed in cutting off the spread of the lethal virus at an early stage.
These statements come after US President Donald Trump accused the World Health Organization (WHO) of bias towards China in the midst of COVID-19 and therefore cut the organization’s funds.
Meanwhile, the WHO has censured Washington, stating that the US ignored the agency’s advice regarding COVID-19 from the begining, while China worked very hard to detect and isolate the first cases infected with the virus, as well as its close contacts.
