The government of Venezuela condemns the “decaying and ridiculous” leadership of G7 for its interventionist comments about the upcoming presidential elections in Venezuela.
The foreign affairs minister of Venezuela, YvĂĄn Gil, on behalf of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, called out the G7 after it called on Venezuela “to fully implement the Barbados Agreement and guarantee competitive and inclusive elections on July 28.”
“The decaying imperialism has never had such a poor and ridiculous leadership as the one exhibited today by the G7,” Minister Gil wrote on social media on Friday, June 14, responding to the anti-Venezuela comments in the joint declaration of the G7 summit recently held in Puglia, Italy.

In that declaration, the G7, comprising United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Japan, condemned the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela for withdrawing its invitation to the European Union’s electoral observation mission for the Venezuelan presidential elections.
In this regard, the Venezuelan foreign minister stated, “Rejected by their own people, the G7 leadership is trying to resort to colonial practices and meddle in matters that do not concern them.”
“Our Revolutionary Democracy will tell them this July 28, once again, that we are free and sovereign and that their lackeys Will Not Return!” he wrote on X.
Venezuela’s CNE President Condemns European Union ‘Sanction Relief’
In March, the CNE, the highest electoral authority of Venezuela, had invited the European Union to accompany the presidential elections, and thereafter held two meetings with a EU exploratory delegation. However, in May, after the EU announced its decision to extend until 2025 its unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela, the CNE withdrew the invitation.
The European Union maintains overarching sanctions against Venezuela since 2017, joining the US policy of “regime change” in Venezuela. As part of the measures, the EU keeps frozen all Venezuelan accounts and assets in EU territory, prohibits European companies from selling goods and services to Venezuela, and has banned several Venezuelan government officials from entering EU countries.
