This Monday, the secretary general of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, stated that the Venezuelan government and people are not seeking military confrontation with any country. However, he insisted that Venezuela is preparing for “any external aggression.”
“We are not calling for war of any kind, nor do we want war with anyone. However, our people must be prepared and alert at all times, on all fronts, in all ways and forms,” Cabello said during a press conference held at the Specialization Center of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) in Carmen de Uria, La Guaira state.
The PSUV leader condemned the deaths of 11 people in a maritime operation launched by the United States, recently condemned as a “massacre.” Cabello questioned the lack of evidence presented regarding alleged drug trafficking, accusing international sectors of waging a campaign against Venezuela.
“They themselves have declared that they killed 11 people in a situation that was not a war. That is applying martial law, and international law is clear: they were obligated to arrest and present evidence, not execute people,” he stated.
Cabello rejected accusations that Venezuela is a drug-producing country and maintained that the true intention of the foreign accusations is to seize the country’s natural resources. “Venezuela has no drug crops or laboratories. What we do have is oil, wealth, and dignity. That is what is at stake,” he added.
Regarding Colombia, he emphasized that, in his opinion, the only president who has confronted drug trafficking has been Gustavo Petro. Meanwhile, he described previous presidents such as Álvaro Uribe, Juan Manuel Santos, Andrés Pastrana and Iván Duque as “partners in drug trafficking” cartels.
During his speech, the PSUV vice president also highlighted the participation of young people in political leadership and national defence training courses. He said that over 300 PSUV youth completed a training program under demanding conditions, consolidating their esprit de corps in the face of external threats.
“The result is extraordinary. Everyone emerged strengthened as revolutionaries. When it comes to defending the homeland, no one wants to be left out; everyone wants to be on the front lines,” he said.
Cabello concluded by reiterating that Venezuela will continue to opt for peace but with constant preparation to guarantee the country’s sovereignty and security.
