In the midst of the COVID-19 US catastrophe, the White House lashes out at a state outlet for following China’s “propaganda” line on pandemic control.
The White House launched an extraordinary attack on the US state’s own Voice of America (VOA) on Friday and declared that this news service sponsored by the US government, must report the facts, but promotes Chinese government propaganda in its reports on the outbreak of the new coronavirus (COVID-19).
This criticism came after VOA this week called China’s Wuhan lockdown a successful “model” to control the coronavirus pandemic that was copied by much of the world, and then tweeted a video of the Chinese celebration with a great light show the end of more than two months of quarantine in Wuhan city.
This criticism was found on the official White House website, pointing to its brief statement with a provocative headline: “In the midst of a pandemic, Voice of America spends its money to promote foreign propaganda. ”
American taxpayers—paying for China’s very own propaganda, via the U.S. Government funded Voice of America! DISGRACE!! https://t.co/mng8oYwz4l

But what angered the White House the most was that the American outlet went one step further, and created a graph with the Chinese government’s statistics to compare the death toll in China with that of the United States. The White House branded this VOA act “a disgrace”.
In an immediate response, VOA director Amanda Bennett condemned these statements on her Twitter account and stressed that her journalists only report facts.
“A healthy democracy requires a free and independent press,” added Bennett, replying to a message on that social media from the White House Director of Social Media, Dan Scavino.
