From the Miraflores Palace, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, reported the approval of new measures to counter the spread of the Coronavirus in the country, among which the entry into force of a social quarantine stands out, which will be applied in a first phase on 6 states -out of 23- and the Capital District.
The head of state indicated that so far 17 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the country (all cases imported from different parts of the world), for which he approved the entry into force of a social quarantine starting at 5:00 am, tomorrow, March 16 for the states: La Guaira, Miranda, Cojedes, Zulia, Apure, Táchira and Distrito Capital, in which the cases registered so far are located.
He explained that these are not collective vacations, so he called on the conscience of the people to abide by the measure and remain at home as much as possible.
The collective quarantine that will be applied will contemplate the suspension of all work activities except that related to basic services: food, medicine, transportation (now at all levels using face masks), etc. “The call is to stay at home,” remarked the president.

“More than 45 thousand Communal Councils and more than 35 thousand CLAP will play a key role to guarantee the food supply of the people and the immediate attention of any health situation in the neighborhood, the community and urban area,” said the president.
Likewise, he expressed that “the fundamental actors are within the Quadrants of Peace (used for crime prevention) to carry out the quarantine and cut the transmission chains of the virus: Integral Health Areas, Barrio Adentro I and II, Bolivarian National Police, FANB, Militia, Popular Units of Integral Defense and Popular Power”.
Lastly, he called on the governors and mayors to be vigilant, as this measure will gradually be applied to the other states of the country in the coming days. “We are going into a situation where I ask for all the patience of the family. It is the hour of solidarity, of love, of protecting each other and everyone,” added the Venezuelan president.
