The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) named Rander PeƱa as the new executive secretary of the bloc.
Through a press release on Thursday, June 12, the member states of ALBA-TCP announced the appointment of PeƱa as its new executive secretary.
PeƱa replaces Jorge Arreaza, who was elected as a deputy of the National Assembly of Venezuela in the elections of May 25.
ALBA-TCP expressed in its statement that the new secretary will ācontinue with the work undertaken for the achievement of the ALBA-TCP Strategic Agenda 2030, with special emphasis on the AgroALBA and ALBA Azul initiatives and the ALBA-TCP Cooperation Agency for Development.ā
The bloc thanked Jorge Arreaza for his work, dedication and efforts to execute the Strategic Agenda, “giving a new energy to ALBA-TCP.” It also wished him “success in his new functions.ā
Currently, Rander PeƱa serves as deputy minister for Latin America of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was recently appointed vice president of the Venezuelan Chess Federation (FVA). He also serves as the vice president for international affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
He previously graduated from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) with a degree in International Studies. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he had worked as director of International Organizations in the Office of the Deputy Minister for Multilateral Affairs and as head of the unit of the Communication Strategy of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, he served as vice rector of Social Affairs and Citizen Participation in the National Experimental University of the Armed Forces (UNEFA) and as coordinator of international affairs of the Ministry of Education.
He also served in the Office of the Deputy Minister of Organization of the New Homeland under the Ministry of Youth. Earlier, he was the general manager for the regions of the National Institute for Youth, director of international affairs of the National Institute for Youth, and general secretary and administrator of the government of the Capital District (Caracas).

The member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP), namely, Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, and Saint Lucia announce that they have appointed Mr. Rander PeƱa as the new Executive Secretary of the Alliance to continue with the work undertaken for the achievement of the ALBA-TCP Strategic Agenda 2030, with special emphasis on the initiatives of AGROALBA and ALBA AZUL and the ALBA-TCP Cooperation Agency for Development.
The Bolivarian Alliance appreciates the work and dedication of Mr. Jorge Arreaza Montserrat, who advanced with solid steps in achieving the objectives of the Strategic Agenda, giving a new impetus to ALBA-TCP, and wishes him success in his new functions.
Likewise, the member countries congratulate the new Executive Secretary, who is entrusted with consolidating the proposals and tasks set forth by the Heads of State and Government and ministerial authorities, and express their full support in his new administration.
