The president of the polling firm Datanálisis, Luis Vicente León, said that only 3% of the Venezuelan population may support a foreign military intervention in Venezuela to change the government.
Luis Vicente LeĂłn is a self-defined anti-Chavista. However, he does not support the far-right opposition either, and has criticized it on various occasions.
A violent regime change is “not a positive element,” LeĂłn said in an interview that he gave to the Primera Página program of the right-wing media GlobovisiĂłn, on Thursday, September 11.
In this regard, he referred to the US interventions in Iraq, Libya, and Afghanistan, where the societies suffered following the arrival of the US military.
“Have there been changes in Iran? No. But, were there changes in Iraq? Yes. There were also changes in Libya and Afghanistan,” said LeĂłn. “Now, did those changes really bring about a positive change for the population? Ask the people of Afghanistan, ask the people of Iraq or Libya if they are happy with the change that was brought about by force, by removing and killing their leaders.”
He emphasized that foreign interference destroyed those nations and created an internal political vacuum.
“The only thing that happened was the outbreak of a civil war and, in the end, the United States had to leave Afghanistan after spending billions of dollars without solving the problem. Is this what the people want? No. People want peace, and that is not achieved through an existential conflict,” commented LeĂłn.
He added that in internal conflicts, there can be both good and bad elements. “But to bring about a sustainable change, it is essential to negotiate with both the good and the bad,” he remarked.
“Our survey is conclusive, only 3% of the Venezuelan population would support a military intervention. That is to say, no one,” he said.
