Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with his Mexican counterpart, Claudia Sheinbaum, on Wednesday during the 9th CELAC Summit. During the meeting, they agreed to strengthen bilateral relations in industrial matters.
“We decided to further strengthen relations between our two countries by promoting regular meetings between our governments and the productive sectors of Brazilian and Mexican industries,” the Brazilian president wrote on social media.
He also stated that they exchanged views on the “economic situation in Latin America and the Caribbean and around the world.”
The meeting took place ahead of the 9th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which focused on food security, climate change, and strengthening regional unity amid global crises.

Previously, the Brazilian leader stated that the South American nation attended the summit to advance regional integration and propose a unified regional candidate to succeed António Guterres as United Nations (UN) secretary-general—preferably a woman. The current secretary-general’s term ends in 2026.
Similarly, the Mexican president proposed that her country improve ties between Latin American and Caribbean nations.
At the 9th CELAC Summit, the host country Honduras will transfer the organization’s pro tempore presidency to Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
