CARACAS, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) – A group of 500 Cuban health specialists arrived in Venezuela on Thursday to deploy throughout the country to offer their knowledge to the health service of Venezuela.
The deployment of Cubans will be done through a government program dating back more than 10 years ago called “Barrio Adentro Mission” that offers health care services to Venezuelans free of charge and has thousands of physical headquarters in the more remote places of the country.
“I want to welcome in a special way the 500 new medical specialists from Cuba who are coming to Venezuela and actively join the Barrio Adentro Public Health System,” said Maduro.
He explained that these are doctors trained in obstetrics, gynecology, intensive care, ophthalmology, epidemiology, ultrasonography, ultrasound, endoscopy, rehabilitation, general medicine among other specialties.
“This is your homeland, this is your home, receive the love of the people,” said the head of state to the Cuban doctors, of whom he explained that 250 of them will exercise managerial functions in medical centers of the Mission Barrio Adentro network.
In addition, the Venezuelan president said that during his term in office 2019-2025, it is proposed to graduate 100 thousand new integral community doctors trained in their country to be inserted in the same public health network.
“We have a goal to fulfill it in this presidential period, to reach one hundred thousand trained integral community doctors and graduates with their degree in hand providing service to the country and the people,” said Maduro.
He also indicated that 2,000 Cuban doctors coming from Brazil will be arriving in Venezuela next week after their retirement from the health program of that country under new President Jair Bolsonaro.
