Venezuela has received a significant boost to its telecommunications infrastructure, as the state of La Guaira received crucial production materials for a fiber optic factory, a project that Iran and Venezuela are jointly establishing. This strategic initiative not only strengthens Venezuela’s technological sovereignty but also opens new avenues for digital development.
The governor of La Guaira, Josรฉ Alejandro Terรกn, announced that this cutting-edge company will have the name Venefibra. This new entity represents a tripartite strategic alliance forged between the state government, the Compaรฑรญa Anรณnima Nacional Telรฉfonos de Venezuela (CANTV), and the Iranian company Modern Data Center (MDC). This collaboration integrates national experience with international innovation, guaranteeing the viability and success of the project.
The event was attended by the ambassador of Iran in Venezuela, Ali Chegini; the president of MDC, Ali Kianpour, and the governing authority of the La Guaira Special Economic Zone, Marcos Melรฉndez. Their presence demonstrates the mutual commitment to promote this project.

The agreement
This industrial collaboration emerges from an agreement signed in September last year. During the 2nd International Telecommunications Fair of Venezuela (FITELVEN), Iran and Venezuela signed the agreement that laid the foundations for this fiber optic factory. The main objective of this agreement is to strengthen and modernize the telecommunications sector in the country. Consequently, this new factory represents a concrete step towards achieving that goal.
Although details of the size of the factory and completion timeline of the project were not disclosed, the arrival of the materials signals significant progress. This demonstrates a tangible commitment on the part of both nations to transform the agreements into operational realities.
The Venezuelan government has repeatedly stated its commitment to expanding connectivity in the country. At the last Fitelven, the authorities reported that the fiber optic service already covers โ99% of the municipalities.โ These efforts have boosted internet coverage, currently reaching 65% of the population. The construction of this fiber optic factory will complement these initiatives, ensuring domestic production of essential components and reducing dependence on imports.
