The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has confirmed that his government is continuing negotiations to secure the return of Venezuelan children kidnapped in migrant prisons by the US empire.
During an episode of his program Con Maduro+, aired this Monday, August 4, the president said that he will not cease the battle to bring every child illegally detained in the US colony back to Venezuela “safe and sound,” stating that “they must be reunited with their parents, with their families, where they belong.”
President Maduro also described July as a month of “great victories,” referring to the rescue of the 252 Venezuelans illegally held at the Center for the Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT) in El Salvador. “That center is a concentration camp,” he explained, “promoted by President Nayib Bukele.”
“This is a battle we will keep fighting in the month of August,” the head of state continued, reiterating the Chavista government’s commitment to protecting the human rights of all Venezuelans in the face of a systematic violation of international migration regulations.
Venezuela Holds John McNamara Responsible for Kidnapping of 33 Children in US
President Maduro finished by commenting that the return of the children and the 252 compatriots kidnapped in El Salvador represents a major diplomatic victory for Venezuela.
From July itself, the Venezuelan government has consistently condemned the abduction of 33 Venezuelan children by the Donald Trump administration. At the time, Foreign Minister Yván Gil described the situation as “criminal, inhumane, and outrageous,” and directly accused John McNamara, the US empire’s chargé d’affaires in Colombia, of being the perpetrator of the children’s kidnapping.
