Venezuelan Minister for the Interior Diosdado Cabello reported that the country’s security forces recently seized 3,075 kilograms of cocaine that was being transported in a submarine belonging to drug trafficking gangs. The submarine was seized while it was trying to cross into Venezuelan waters.
“Yesterday a submarine carrying a large quantity of drugs was captured. During the operation, four Colombians were arrested with 3,075 kilos of cocaine,” Cabello reported on Thursday, July 17. He added that drugs seized by Venezuela in the last six months exceed the total quantity seized throughout 2024.
In this regard, he stressed that “Venezuela is really fighting drug trafficking, unlike the United States that with its rhetoric tries to hide its ineffectiveness in the fight against drug trafficking.”
He further pointed out that the US is the main drug-trafficking country in the world. “Who in the world has ever seen a drug cartel being caught in the United States? No, it does not even happen in the movies,” he said.

Minister Cabello asserted that Venezuela surpassed the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) mission in the seizure of illicit substances. “We have far surpassed this organization which has been questioned for facilitating the transit of drugs,” he said. “In Venezuela we have seized more drugs than the DEA, especially drugs belonging to Álvaro Uribe [former president of Colombia].”
Silence of mainstream media
Cabello criticized the silence of the mainstream media regarding the achievements of the Venezuelan government in the fight against drug trafficking, and added that some media owners and journalists are linked to Colombian drug cartels.
“The media people who are paid by drug traffickers do not dare to say what I said, that we seized 3,075 kilograms of cocaine,” Cabello remarked. “Their headline is: four Colombians were caught with an alleged drug stash. They do not dare to say more because that is where the money comes from.”
