Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has expressed his government’s willingness to help Colombia in its peace process, without interfering in the country’s internal politics.
“We received President Gustavo Petro’s request at the time to help bring peace to Colombia, and we are doing so, with prudence and without interference,” said the president during his television program Con Maduro+ this Monday, October 14.
He clarified that he is still evaluating Colombia’s request for Venezuela to mediate in the coup d’état that is being attempted. “At the appropriate time, we will make an official statement,” he said.
He recalled the progress made by the Venezuelan government for promoting peace in the neighboring nation during the government of former President Juan Manuel Santos.

However, he accused the former president of being part of a campaign against the good relations between the two countries.
“I regret the stance that Juan Manuel Santos has once again taken against Venezuela, but no one is going to harm the progress that Colombia and Venezuela have made,” Maduro said.
