Through a statement published on the Telegram account of Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil, the government of Venezuela set out its position in relation to the events in West Asia, stating that the actions of Iran correspond with “its right to legitimate defense, as established in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, in response to the threats and crimes against humanity committed by the Netanyahu regime against Palestine, Lebanon, and the Iranian people.”
The statement published this Wednesday, October 2, continued by stating that Venezuela “urges the international community to mobilize to restore legality and stop the genocide against the Palestinian and Lebanese people, as well as the unbridled race to take control of the region by Israel and the United States of America, which has unleashed serious consequences for international peace and stability.”
On October 1, Iranian government authorities announced that they had launched missile strikes at military targets in Israel. The launch, according to Iranian media, is a response to the assassinations of Ismail Haniyeh, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and Abbas Nilforoushan carried out by the Zionist regime of the Israeli entity.
Below is the full, unofficial translation of the statement:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is closely following recent events in the Middle East that have prompted action by the Islamic Republic of Iran, invoking its right to self-defense, as established in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, in response to the threats and crimes against humanity committed by the Netanyahu regime against Palestine, Lebanon, and the Iranian people, including violations of their sovereignty and territorial integrity and the murder of innocent civilians, as well as political and military leaders of these countries.
The inaction of the United Nations Security Council, paralyzed by the veto exercised in a complicit manner by the United States of America, has prevented Netanyahu from stopping his aggression and his failure to comply with international law, which continues to be the greatest threat to security in the region. It is urgent that Israel’s escalation of war throughout the region be stopped and that its responsibilities for the war crimes committed by its government be determined.
The Bolivarian government of Venezuela calls on the international community to mobilize to restore legality and stop the genocide against the Palestinian people and Lebanon, as well as the unbridled race to take control of the region by Israel and the United States of America, which has unleashed serious consequences for international peace and stability.
