Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)—As part of ongoing efforts to improve underground transportation services, Venezuelan Transportation Minister Ramón Velásquez Araguayán reported full restoration of the tunnel and train washing system for the Caracas Metro. This will help maintain the rail network in optimal condition.
Through social media, the official emphasized that these projects were completed using 100% Venezuelan labor. The system had been heavily impacted by illegal US and European sanctions imposed for “regime”-change purposes.
Velásquez reaffirmed the Caracas Metro company’s commitment to improving users’ daily commutes and protecting workers. In recent years, the company has also refurbished and repaired trains and stations severely affected during the initial years of US sanctions.
“We continue to push forward with the Metro Plan,” Velásquez wrote.
Sanctions resistance and train restoration
The restoration demonstrates the working class’s commitment to finding solutions to the US-led economic blockade and unilateral coercive sanctions while maintaining operations.
On March 31, Velásquez announced the reintroduction of the 25th refurbished train into the system. He noted that this milestone achieves the government’s target of restoring 40 operational trains despite US sanctions.
The Murderous Machinery of Sanctions Causes Half a Million Deaths a Year
An additional 50 trains are expected to become operational by December 2025. Officials project 70 trains will be in service by December 2026, potentially reducing passenger wait times to 1 minute and 30 seconds.
