The minister for the Interior, Citizen Security, and Peace of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, stated that the Peasant Militia will defend the country, and although they carry machetes, they know how to use them at the appropriate moment. He made this comment during the swearing-in ceremony of the Bolivarian Peasant Force in the La Peñita sector of Carayaca, La Guaira state, on Thursday, October 16.
“These mountains are sacred. Anyone who dares to set foot in these sacred spaces will find a people ready to defend the homeland,” he said.
“If anyone thinks that with two bombs Venezuelans will surrender, they are wrong and they do not know this country’s history,” he added. “They have no idea what the people of Venezuela are made of, or where we come from.”
He recounted that in the first edition of the historical newspaper Correo del Orinoco, there is a letter by Pablo Morillo, sent to his superiors in Spain. “He speaks of the Venezuelan fighters, both men and women, of the ferocity with which they were capable of fighting, of their willingness to lay down their lives, of their courage, their boldness, audacity, and the special skill that Venezuelans possess for combat.”
“Others can talk about defeats, we will talk about victories,” he said, adding that the people of Vietnam, with smaller weapons, were able to defeat all those who tried to invade their territory.
Cabello, with a machete held high, swore in more than 400 men and women of the Peasant Militia.
Referring to the US interventionist attempts, Cabello said, “what they have not been able to achieve through other means, they will try to do by force, but they will be defeated.”
He highlighted that Venezuela “has an extraordinary peasant force, committed to two objectives: production and, of course, territorial defense … Probably some do not know it, but in these mountains, more than 25% of the vegetables consumed in Greater Caracas and Miranda are produced, thanks to the strength and labor of these people.”
“I perfectly remember the first militia units formed under the orders of Commander Chávez. The peasant militias showed their courage in defending the homeland, the territory, and sovereignty,” Cabello emphasized during the swearing-in ceremony.

Governor of La Guaira: farming community committed to the defense of the homeland
The governor of La Guaira state, José Alejandro Terán, who was present at the swearing-in ceremony, handed over essential tools and equipment to the Peasant Militia members for carrying out the defense of the nation.
The farmers were also provided with 400 kits that included water tanks, hoses, work tools, fertilizer, and seeds, as part of the Venezuelan government’s efforts to ensure food sovereignty in the region.
Terán highlighted the importance of the farming community, which, despite the adversities and the imperialist threats that the country faces, “has demonstrated its commitment by organizing itself for production and the defense of the country.”
“The farming community and the people living in these territories have organized to produce, and in the context of the current situation—the imperialist threat and cruelty—they have voluntarily come forward to enlist in the Peasant Militia,” the governor stated.
Terán also highlighted that “they carry the legacy of brave women and men,” referring to historical figures of the wars of independence, such as Manuela Sáenz.
