Candidates for the municipal elections scheduled for July 27 visited the National Electoral Council offices across Venezuela this Tuesday to finalize their official registration.
“Registration is currently underway at each of the National Electoral Council offices located in the municipalities and states,” reported the president of the council, Elvis Amoroso, during a press conference from the CNE headquarters in Caracas. This process ensures compliance with the electoral schedule, added Amoroso.
Amoroso explained that the registration process for candidates is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Article 59 of the Organic Law on Electoral Processes.
A total of 2,806 positions will be elected: 335 mayors and 2,471 municipal councilors (of whom 1,420 are elected by list vote, 982 by nominal vote, and 69 by indigenous communities).
According to the announcement made by the CNE last Friday, the extension of the deadline for candidate registration ends today.
“The Venezuelan people will once again reaffirm their commitment to democracy and peace” in the upcoming elections, stressed CNE’s Elvis Amoroso.
Opposition parties nominate their candidates
Leaders of the opposition parties Democratic Action, COPEI, Alianza Lápiz, Conde, Un Nuevo Tiempo-CONTIGO, and others visited the CNE headquarters in Caracas.
Figures such as Bernabé Gutiérrez, José Gregorio Correa, and Juan Carlos Alvarado confirmed their registration.
Representatives of the Assembly of Renewal and Hope for the Country (AREPA) and the Ecological Movement of Venezuela also registered their candidacies.

GPPSB published list of candidates
The SimĂłn BolĂvar Great Patriotic Pole (GPPSB) published an updated list of candidates approved by the Revolution’s political high command to run for mayor in the upcoming elections.
On the United Socialist Party of Venezuela’s website, one is informed that they can access a document to view the names of each candidate for the 23 states and the Capital District [Caracas]. However, Orinoco Tribune attempted to follow the link provided, and the list was not available.
Last Saturday, PSUV Secretary General Diosdado Cabello announced a preliminary list with the names of 86 candidates, including Carmen Meléndez, who will run for mayor of the Libertador Municipality. These candidates correspond to the more populated municipalities in the country.
